More Than a Refugee Appeal

More than 120 million people have been displaced by conflict, violence and disaster. At Muslim Aid, we are committed to humanising the refugee crisis by recognising the people behind the numbers and providing the food, shelter, medical care and support they need to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

Fleeing Violence. Fighting to Survive.

Today, the world is facing one of the largest displacement crises in history.

More than 120 million people have been forced to flee their homes because of conflict, violence, persecution and disaster. Families who once lived ordinary lives now find themselves separated from loved ones, uncertain of where they will sleep, how they will feed their children or what the future holds.

Across Gaza, Syria, Yemen, Myanmar and countless other regions affected by crisis, millions of people have been uprooted from their homes and communities. Many are living in refugee camps, temporary settlements and overcrowded shelters, with limited access to food, clean water, healthcare and the basic necessities needed to live with dignity.

For many families, displacement is not a short-term hardship. Months become years. Children grow up knowing only life in a camp. Parents struggle to rebuild what was lost while carrying the trauma of everything they left behind.

Behind every statistic is a human story. A mother searching for safety. A father trying to provide for his family despite impossible circumstances. A child who dreams not of toys or holidays, but simply of a place to call home.

More Than a Refugee

The term "refugee" can never fully capture the lives behind the crisis.

Every refugee is a person with hopes, ambitions and loved ones. They are mothers striving to protect their children, fathers working to rebuild their families' futures and young people whose education, careers and aspirations have been interrupted by circumstances beyond their control.

Before conflict forced them to flee, many lived ordinary lives filled with the same dreams and aspirations that we all share. They had homes, jobs, friendships and plans for the future.

Today, they face extraordinary challenges simply to meet their most basic needs.

Yet despite unimaginable hardship, refugees continue to demonstrate remarkable resilience, courage and determination. Their displacement does not define them. Their strength does.

More Than a Refugee: Nada's Story

Nada, 38, never imagined she would be forced to flee her home in Gaza City.

When conflict escalated, she and her husband were forced to leave everything behind in search of safety. But displacement brought additional challenges for the family. Nada's husband lives with a physical disability and was injured during the conflict, making every move more difficult and every search for shelter more urgent.
We had to move constantly and struggle to find a place to stay.
Like millions of displaced people around the world, Nada's family faced the uncertainty of not knowing where they would sleep, how they would access basic facilities or what tomorrow would bring.

For Nada, one of the greatest challenges was accessing the most basic services while caring for her injured husband. Everyday tasks that many of us take for granted became a daily struggle.

With support from Muslim Aid, Nada and her husband were provided with a safe place to stay, accessible bathroom facilities and ongoing support within the camp.
Now we feel more secure and supported every day.
For Nada, the support provided more than shelter. It restored a sense of dignity, stability and hope during one of the most difficult periods of her life.

Inspired by a Legacy of Compassion

Throughout Islamic history, migration has often been driven by the search for safety and protection.

The Hijrah reminds us of those who left their homes behind in pursuit of security and a better future. The Ansar welcomed them with generosity, compassion and solidarity, sharing what they had with those who arrived with nothing.

These timeless values continue to inspire our response to humanitarian crises today.

Every refugee deserves to be treated with dignity. Every displaced family deserves the opportunity to rebuild. Every person forced from their home deserves to know they have not been forgotten.

Supporting Refugees Around the World

For over 40 years, Muslim Aid has been working alongside refugees and displaced communities, delivering humanitarian assistance to those affected by conflict, disaster and displacement.

Our work includes supporting Rohingya refugees in Indonesia who have fled persecution and continue to face significant challenges as they seek safety and stability.

We also support displaced Palestinian families, including Gazans living in camps in Syria, where access to food, healthcare and essential services remains limited and humanitarian needs remain high.

Across refugee camps and displacement settings, Muslim Aid provides food assistance, shelter support, water, healthcare and protection services to vulnerable families, including people living with disabilities, older people and others who often face additional barriers when displaced.

Closer to home, Muslim Aid works across the UK to support vulnerable individuals and families through community programmes and hardship support, helping people rebuild their lives with dignity and confidence.

Providing More Than Emergency Relief

Displacement affects every aspect of a family's life.

Without stable shelter, nutritious food, clean water and healthcare, families can quickly become trapped in cycles of poverty and vulnerability. Children face interruptions to their education, parents struggle to secure livelihoods and entire communities are left struggling to recover from crisis.

Your support can help provide:

  • Emergency food assistance for families facing hunger
  • Safe shelter and essential household items
  • Clean water and hygiene support
  • Medical care for vulnerable communities
  • Cash assistance for families in crisis
  • Protection and support for displaced children

These interventions not only help families survive immediate hardship but also provide the foundation they need to rebuild their lives with dignity.

Donate Today

Every day, families are forced to flee violence, conflict and persecution in search of safety. Together, we can help ensure that when they arrive, they are met not with despair, but with compassion, support and hope.

Donate today and help provide food, shelter, medical care and essential assistance to refugee families rebuilding their lives after displacement.

Because they are more than refugees. They are families fleeing violence and fighting to survive. For refugees around the world, the road to recovery is often long. But with your support, it is a journey they do not have to face alone.

We are a faith-based British international charity that provides help to people who are victims of natural disasters or conflict or suffering from poverty, hunger, disease, homelessness, injustice, deprivation or lack of skills and economic opportunities.
