COVID-19 has become a serious risk to the lives and health for the already suffering people of Myanmar. Increasing infection rates, a shortage of oxygen supplies and inadequate healthcare have left people quite literally, fighting to breathe. We are targeting 10 villages in Rakhine State with an emergency COVID-19 response.
Act now in order to save lives.
A disintegrating healthcare system, including a collapsing vaccination and testing system, have left 54 million people in Myanmar at increased risk of COVID-19. A lack of adequate sanitation and prevention measures mean the deadly virus is spreading throughout the country. As of 19th August, official figures show that Myanmar has seen 365,759 total cases with 13,945 deaths from COVID-19 so far.
In the Rakhine State where more than half of the community are Rohingya, the spread of COVID-19 poses a serious threat to life for a people who have already fled violence.
